How It Works

Thank you for being such a kindly companion on my inner journey.

— A client email to Paul

If you decide you want my help to heal PTSD, Complex PTSD (CPTSD), child abuse, or other scars of past traumatic experience, know that I will join you in that commitment. You’ll have my 25 years of experience as a psychotherapist, my extensive training in somatic psychotherapy, and my heartfelt resolve to help you move past your emotional pain, grief, anger, or anxiety to much more joy and freedom in your life.

I work in a way that gives my clients a full and comprehensive experience of support and genuine transformation. My goal is not merely that you have new experiences during the time we spend together, but that our work “sticks,” or, in other words, that you experience lasting changes that influence all parts of your life. I want you to experience the resolution, healing, and newfound zest for life that “puts me out of a job.”

Weekly sessions are strongly recommended for at least the first 90 days.

The charge for psychotherapy is $140 per session.  Payment is due at the time of each session. Preferred payment methods are personal check, Venmo, or Zelle. Credit cards can also be accepted. To cover the cost of processing a credit card transaction, I add a surcharge of 3.5%. A surcharge is not made for use of a debit card or HSA.

A Somatic Experiencing session includes:

  • A full 60-minute session (instead of the typical 50-minute therapy hour) exploring:
    • Ways to safely and gradually come out of the “freeze state” so common to trauma survivors
    • Building “resources”; i.e., experiences which help us feel joy, optimism, freedom, and love
    • Reducing over-reactivity to triggers leftover from past trauma, abuse, or neglect, especially in intimate and family relationships
    • Awakening awareness of feelings and sensation
    • Skills in “centering”; i.e., getting “out of your head” and “into your body”
    • Discharging anxiety, grief, stress, and anger in safe and healthy ways
    • Learning to be present to yourself and to others, in silence or in conversation
    • Internal and external boundaries; how to say “yes” and “no” effectively
    • Releasing compulsions, identifying and addressing underlying healthy needs
  • Support in keeping an accountability journal of homework assignments, goals, insights, and feelings
  • Handouts and recommended resources when appropriate
  • Assistance in contemplating and writing a Life Purpose
  • Support in thoughtful Goal-Setting
  • Individualized Homework Assignments
  • Email Support between sessions
  • Periodic Review and Reevaluation of Goals and Progress

Because I am dedicated to long-term permanent change, I request a minimum 90-day commitment. Much can be transformed through our work in 90 days. Following this, our work can continue as long as you are finding it valuable.

Questions? Want to explore if this is right for you?

If you are serious about moving beyond the limitations imposed by your past trauma or suffering, there is no more powerful approach than this.

After several months in this program, a client “graduates” but may want to return occasionally for a “tuneup.”

Forms of Payment Accepted

Besides cash and personal check, we accept Venmo or Zelle.
